São Paulo’s Hottest Neighborhood

The NYT has the inside on the “it” neighborhood in São Paulo, which, in fact, is not really a neighborhood at all, but the historically “bad” side of Avenida Paulista. Once known as the city’s red-light district, this “anything-goes nuthouse” is now hopping with multi-level clubs, hip restaurants and late night lounges including Astronete, “a straight-out-of-Williamsburg bar run by a Brazilian couple who once lived in Brooklyn.” A click on the “photo” section of their website links to a Flickr photostream of their patrons basically making out all over the bar. Well, at least they know how to market the place.
