Top 13 Free Events In New York City This Summer
Fodor’s has a run-down of their top 12 free events this summer in the city that never likes to pay for things. Some are events most people, including tourists, probably know about including Shakespeare in the Park (Twelfth Night starring Anne Hathaway is this year’s show) and the annual New York Philharmonic and Metropolitan Opera performances in Central Park.
But Fodor’s, come on, how can you leave out Prospect Park’s “Celebrate Brooklyn” series of free music shows in their Brooklyn bandshell?
David Byrne kicked off this summer’s lineup, and future performances include Blonde Redhead, TV on the Radio, Animal Collective, and quite possibliy my favorite event of the summer, the African Music Festival taking place on July 18 and featuring King Sunny Ade, Mandingo Ambassadors, Abena Koomson, Sing Sing, and Yasser Darwish. And, the African community in New York comes out in full force selling crafts, music, and food.
