Looking Back And Looking Ahead: Contributor Brittany Weaver Shares Her Travels
Brit is holding down South America for TheExped, specifically Buenos Aires, and perhaps eating some of the best beef imaginable. She shares her thoughts of ’09 and possible destinations for 2010 with us.
2010 Destinations
2010 will start, for me, out of need. I have to renew my tourist visa, thus Uruguay, being a popular choice, is my destination for February. In the meantime, I hope to be seeking adventure in Cordoba or Rio Negro, districts in Argentina. I find it hard to plan ahead, you never know what you’ll stumble across, but since I have Canadian winters, I know I will be eye-balling the south of Spain or France; perhaps back to Argentina, Cordoba or Rio Negro. When I get back home, Durango, Mexico, and Chicago are on the short-stays list, as well as a revisit to the city of my heart, New York.
Lessons learned in 2009:
- Do not travel to Buenos Aires on a Friday if you have nowhere to stay. This will leave you stranded at the airport for 3 hours with two uncomfortable travel-mates, one really cranky cat, and waiting for a
“Katrine” to call back. - Every experience is subjective to the culture’s time frame. For example, new-released movies are still new releases, even when that’s a month later than back home.
- Sometimes the best place to see a great, independent, North American film is to go to a cultural center and watch their “foreign films” for free; “Life Aquatic” — I couldn’t stay away from Bill Murray.
- The best place is here, the best time is now (her mom told her that one).
