How do you know when the world has turned its priorities upside down? How about when a hotel guest requests to watch a movie on the beach without getting sand between his toes. That’s how.
It really puts life into perspective when reading Forbes’ “World’s Most Outrageous Guest Requests”. Not only are some of the demands ridiculous, but border on insanity. It’s one of those paradoxical stories that make you feel good and bad at the same time. Good, because you feel normal, and bad, because you see the slow decline of human rationality.
The only thing I remember asking from a hotel concierge was a VHS of “Airplane!” for us to fall asleep to. Pretty boring.
However, I have found that folks running hostels have been nothing but accommodating. They will book you an excursion or a tour, rent bicycles or order pizza for you. No fuss and all smiles. I guess most of the guests at hostels won’t be asking for their pet tigers to accompany them on a hike nor have the desire to send their children a herd of deer for special occasions.
