Enjoy Eating Your Toilet Bowl Of Noodles

Wednesday, April 28, 2010

There’s something to be said about innovation. Even if it’s as cheesy as Jim Carrey in the Cable Guy, at least Medieval Times is not your average, run-of-the-mill eatery. This concept isn’t just limited to tights-wearing actors of the round table, interestingly, themed and concept restaurants are sprouting up all over the world. Over at Delish, they featured a handful of the craziest, most unique, and wackiest joints you’ll find anywhere.

You have the Hajime Restaurant, in Bangkok, where you get served your food from one of four dancing robots. Yeah, robots. Not weird enough? Test the strength of your gag reflex when you slurp up Japanese noodles from toilet-shaped bowls, while you sit on one, at Teipei’s Modern Toilet restaurant. Don’t forget to put the seat down, guys, you’ll get yelled at here, too. Then you have  Tokyo’s Alcatraz E.R., where you get handcuffed and served drinks through blood transfusion equipment, all while locked behind iron bars.

Weirdness out of the way, there are several dinner choices that made the list, and which I would make a point to experience if I was in the area.

At the Ithaa Undersea Restaurant on Rangali Island, Maldives, you have the option to eat fish, surrounded by fish. No lie, it’s entirely three to six feet below water in the Indian Ocean (depending on the tides). At Dinner in the Sky, you dine on a table suspended 50 meters above, well, anywhere you choose (reservations are $41,000 for 22 people). In Nuremberg, Germany, the futuristic ‘s Baggers restaurant includes a touch screen ordering platform, then your food travels down a roller coaster track, through the ceiling, to your table from the kitchen above. A friggin’ rollercoaster!

I dig the creativity, if for no other reason than creativity itself. Truthfully, all I need is a steak and a local beer. And I prefer not drinking that out of a urinal.
