Break Out The Tents: Your Guide To This Summer’s Music Festivals

Rain or shine, summer means music. Most memories surrounding easy-season-living has been captured in my mind by a song or playlist or a concert that we had to find some way of getting to. The sun and heat conjure up images of plastic cups and dirty feet. From the corners of my mind.
So, when this article from Rough Guides on the top-ten summer music festivals came out, my knees got a little rubbery and my toes started tapping.
This is a must-read list for music lovers, or more aptly music-goers, everywhere and I would recommend jumping on tickets fast because they are selling-out (I already checked most of them.)
To top the list, and rightfully so, is Bonnaroo, a sustainable (green-friendly) mega-festival happening in Manchester, Tennessee. This festival runs June 10-13, and is hosting big names like Jay-Z and Damian Marley with Nas, rounded off with the likes of Kings of Leon, The National, The Black Keys and Tokyo Police Club. Four days of pure, summer-music love.
Personally, a close runner-up for an amazing festival to see would be the Oxegen Festival in Punchestown, Ireland, happening July 9-11. This line-up is similar to Bonnaroo because of its headliners, but with a little more Canadian-spice added: Broken Social Scene and Arcade Fire. So, I like it.
Both those festivals are a little on the pricey side, but would be worth every minute.
Another notable to make the list would be Benicassin in Spain, where the ever epically nostalgic The Prodigy will be playing along with the Dirty Projectors and DJ Shadow.
If you happen to be a parent, refusing to forgo festival fun, apparently there is a kid-friendly fiesta happening in Denmark. Roskilde has a Junior Pavilion where you can drop the kids off before heading to the grown-ups’ stage to watch Prince, Patti Smith and the super-group Them Crooked Vultures. Seems a little tame, though.
There will always be a festival to hit up at some time, somewhere and some season, but these are just some that have made an impression on someone.
Sounds like summer to me.
