January’s “Island Vibes” Photo Contest Winner: A Thai Pier Perspective

Tuesday, February 1, 2011

What is going down as the closest vote in the long and epic history of our monthly photo contests, this pier makes all of the below-zero temperatures most of us are expereincing disappear. This month’s winner comes from Srdjan Stepanovic. Here’s what he had to say about the shot:

I shot this while on a short vacation on the island of Koh Samet, Thailand with my girlfriend. We stayed in a bungalow off the secluded beach where this hand-made pier stood prominently and presented itself as a good photographic opportunity. Actually it houses a beautiful cafe/restaurant just behind my back but I found this perspective to be just the right composition.

Secluded beach . . . bungalow . . . café . . . girlfriend . . . we’re definitely feeling the shot! In fact, Brit’s got so much love, she said it “makes me want to run and jump off the end.” On behalf of the entire universe, thanks for the escape!

Congratulations! More of Srdjan’s photos can be found here, where you’ll find hundreds of reasons to throw a dart at a map and start packing.

The month of love is ahead of us — and we love love! That means February’s contest is “Love On The Road.” We’re hoping to make Luke cringe for the entire month.
