Be The Change: Save A Life

Wednesday, March 16, 2011

Of all the advice Patrick Atkinson, founder of the GOD´S CHILD Project has given to me, one stands out. “Atkinson´s Law” says simply that when faced with the problems of the world everyone: 1) Wants to help; 2) Can help in some way; 3) But too many people just do not know how.

I believe this. The world is filled with well-intentioned people willing to do whatever it takes to make the world a more livable place for others. The world is also filled with dire difficulties. Wars, famines and abuses abound in the national media. Sometimes, it´s easy to drown in all that and feel like we are helpless and things are hopeless.

But we don´t need to drown in all that. We want to help and we can. We just need to find out how. Today, is one of those opportunities.

Global Giving is currently offering matching donations raised today for our Casa Jackson Malnourished Infant Center. They will be matching any donations by 30%. The organization that has the most individual donors giving  today will receive an additional $1,000 in support.

Malnutrition is a huge problem in Guatemala.  50% of children in this country are malnourished. Guatemala has one of the highest infant mortality rates in the world.

This is huge problem that we cannot allow to continue. So today, I encourage everyone reading this to take on a part of the solution and make a donation to Casa Jackson through our Global Giving´s Restore A Child´s Health in Guatemala´s project. Please repost this link, Facebook, Tweet and e-mail it to family and friends. Tell everyone and help us rally an army of support for this worthy cause.

There was once a time when I would have been hesitant to ask people for money. But since becoming part of The GOD´S CHILD Project´s team, I have held these malnourished babies on the brink of death and I have felt how broken the world sometimes feel through them. Through the work this project is doing I have also witnessed these infants recover. I have seen them gain the strength to laugh and smile and I can throw my full support behind this and ask you (plead with you) to throw your support behind this.
