Barcelona Food: Worth Waiting Up Late To Eat

Friday, March 18, 2011

Is it me or do you notice how there seems to be an onslaught of articles published about a destination you’re traveling to just before you go? I understand, this is completely unscientific, irrational, and probably a tad ego-centric to think this, but I swear, there are some sort of travel writing gurus in the cosmos that seem to be very good at doing this before every trip.

My trek to Barcelona is 17 days away (but who’s counting?), and I’ve run into guides for the best rooftops in Barcelona, videos about everything from proper beach etiquette in the city to a guide to Park Guell, as well as this recent guide from BootsnAll to the best eats around town for a true taste of Catalan cuisine.

Some favorites include Tortilla de Patatas, a devilishly simple dish consisting of a heart-stopping number of eggs whipped up into a thick omelet and filled with fried potatoes and onions — and like some of the great foods in the world, most likely a product of peasants making do with what little food they had — and botifarra, a sausage that is a favorite in Catalan.
