Why I Quit My Job To Travel The World Or (Some Would Believe) Why I Chose To Commit Financial Suicide
Published on October 10, 2011
i just quit my job too! 1 month ago and it was after much thought... i don't know what my future holds, but i sure know i've done so much more than i could have ever imagined if i was still working. I'm certain i've done the right thing and look forward to the unknown. (not exactly unknown, i had a 'masterplan' before i quit.. so it's still kinda going as planned, just better.. ) haa.
You guys are amazing :) such a lovely couple. Meet you guys somewhere in the world... If not on your return! Xx Jiki
Hi Wei & Jo,
Thanks for sharing, and all the best in your travels. Well... I guess the only 'problem' with long term travel is that it's highly addictive. My wife and I have already gone twice... got back to work for 2 months and already itching to plan for the next one. =)
Hi Thiam Wei
I do not have the luxury of a companion like you but i am currently on my gap year while all my friends are plunging into University life and ephemeral grades.
This is a poem i will like to share with you... Hope it encourages you as much as it did for me :)
The Road Less Travelled - Robert FrostTwo roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveller, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference
I saw shades of myself in this article. Very well-written, and insightful on the fact that long term travel is not for everyone.
Welcome to the club! One of the best thing I loved about being unemployed is getting to slow down and really think about what I want... Something that is not that easy when you are just rushing to get through life...
Hi there. Great to hear from you. I am actually a big fan of your blog too. You've been an inspiration. Have your blog's link on my blogroll
