Top 10 Albums For Fall

Tuesday, October 25, 2011

What does a list of the top 10 albums for fall/autumn have to do with travel? Well, not much, I suppose, but like travel, there seems to be certain albums that just sound better during a certain time of the year, much like certain albums just sound better when you’re on the road getting away.

With the crisp of air beginning to be detected here in New York, and an increase in the homeless population heading south — into the subway stations — for the season, I thought I’d put together a list of my top 10 albums for fall.

10) Ryan Adams: Love is Hell

9) Radiohead: The Bends

8) Sigur Ros: Agaetis Byrjun

7) Cat Power: The Greatest

6) Simon and Garfunkel: Sounds of Silence

5) Neil Young: Harvest

4) Van Morrison: Astral Weeks

3) Broken Social Scene: You Forgot it in People

2) REM: Automatic for the People

1) Nick Drake: Pink Moon

There were a few albums I left out that just didn’t make the cut, as well as some great suggestions I got from others, so I’ll also include some honorable mentions.

• Radiohead: OK Computer

• Once: Original Soundtrack

• Joni Mitchell: Blue

• John Legend : Once Again

• Echo & the Bunnymen: Ocean Rain

• Sonic Youth: Sister; Bad Moon Rising

• Tom Waits: Nighthawks at the Diner

• Arlo Guthrie: Alice’s Restaurant

• Norah Jones: The Fall
