Video: The NYT Frugal Traveler Preaches Taking Risks While Traveling

This presentation entitled “How to Get the Most Out of Your Travels in 2011″ from the recent 2011 New York Times Travel show, was moderated by New York Times travel editor Danielle Mattoon, and featured the new Frugal Traveler, Seth Kugel, and Practical Traveler, Michelle Higgins.

In this clip, Seth is asked by Danielle, “How do you navigate ‘off the map places?” Seth has a deceptively simple response: Take Risks.

In other words, Seth advises to try putting down the guidebook and getting off the beaten path and try talking to strangers on a bus for travel advice about their city, or try meeting friends of a friends (like through Facebook) for an authentic night out on the town. No argument there from me Seth.
