I love Machu Picchu. I thought you were very arrogant by comparing the article with Machu Picchu. But i think you are right regarding this. It generally looks same.

Thanks for sharing.

We actually took the opportunity to see Lake Titicaca and the floating islands, the Nazca lines and a culinary tour of Lima–all things that we wouldn't have had time to do had Machu Pichu been available. Totally different trip, but a great way to see an alternate side of Peru.

I would also suggest self-guided hiking in Peru's Colca Canyon. It's nowhere near as touristy or expensive as Machu Picchu and the travelers you meet are mainly backpackers seeking to get off the beaten path.

You can find descriptions and daily itineraries for the Lares, Cachiccata and Sacred Valley treks at <a href="http://www.IncaTrailHiking.com” target=”_blank”>www.IncaTrailHiking.com.

While MP is really in a league of its own, there's something about Choque–the brutal hike, the emptiness–that's really rewarding.

My wife and I were able to do the round trip in 3 days. Also, our guide said the Cachora–>MP trek was usually 9 days, though with a trip of that length it probably depends a lot on the individual trekkers. If I had it to do over again, I'd go with that.
