A Glut Of New Cheap Flights Are Coming To Asia

Tuesday, February 28, 2012

Good news Mr. and Mrs. I-haven’t-worn-pants-in-six-months, I-won’t-pay-more-than-one-dollar-for-lunch, that-street-vendor-won’t-get-away-with-charging-me-10%-more-than-the-locals, my-monthly-hostel-costs-equal-your-Netflix-fees, I’m-sick-of-Thailand-because-there-are-too-many-expats-like-myself-there backpacker in Asia, there’s going to be whole slew of new budget options for flights in the region coming up this year.

As The WSJ is reporting, regional airliners including Cebu Air, Singapore Air, Tiger Airways, JetStar and AirAsia X are all eyeing budget flights of longer than six hours with the hope of boosting profits to an otherwise profit-challenging sector. This means you should keep an eye out for deals in 2012 for new budget routes between the West Coast of the U.S. and the Philippines, flights between Asia and Australia, and flights between Southeast Asia and countries to the north including China, Japan and Korea.

Now do the rest of us a favor, and use those savings and splurge on an extra couple of pairs of clean underwear, okay?
