Ikea To Open 100 Hotels
Let the furniture assembly jokes begin! Ikea has announced that it will be opening 100 hotels throughout Europe in an effort to capture the budget-conscious, disposable furniture crowd who eschews luxury accommodations.
According to the Financial Times, “[t]he hotels will not use the Ikea name and will not be run by the Swedish company but by an established hotel operator, according to an executive familiar with the plans.”
Is this a sign of the economic malaise gripping the Continent, or just simply Ikea’s inevitable global creep toward domination of a world inhabited by people living in the midst of streamlined footrests and handy kitchenware? Time will only tell.
