I just came across your story and I was shocked at how similar my experience was to yours. I remember lots of people crying and “healing” each other, and I remember Keith making very similar declarations about various women that were present, seemingly reading their minds and penetrating their souls. I kind of enjoyed the experience and thought Keith might possibly be some kind of intuitive healer, but I didn’t really feel much myself, and I didn’t like when people tried to tell me things about my fears and whatnot. Thanks for sharing the experience!

Over 5000 dollars!!!

I’d agree with you – I’m not so sure about chocolate spirits or crystal healing myself, but if it makes people happy and does no harm, then I don’t have a problem with it. And I don’t think chocolate healing does any harm in the hands of Keith the Shaman.

Out of all the expat communities who have carved out little hippie enclaves in Guatemala, there’s supposedly much greater community between the locals and expats in San Marco. Animosity can be high elsewhere, because when the white Western expats run hip hostels and cafes and tour companies for backpackers – who is going to go to the outdated local versions?

That being said, I still feel that you wrote this article well.

Chocolate spirits? Crystal healing? How about some genuine psychology and science?
