As a result, i´ve been able to enjoy the beauty of Asturias since I was a small child. I Usually went during summer vacations. If you retreat to the countryside, you’ll be amazed by its colors and geography as the author wrote. It is truly amazing. Alternatively, one can enjoy the vibrant urban centers of Oviedo and Gijón. The Cantabrian coast is also splendid, with lots of fishing villages. Another good thing to try is the “Arroz con leche” or rice with milk. Asturias is a hidden pearl for both tourist and Spaniards.

It is exactly that, Debbie.

I need to come to Spain and when I do, Asturias will be on my itinerary.

So much more, Matthew. On a different scale it sounds like a similar principle is at work on Gran Canaria: to escape, head inland.

Only too happy to feature Asturias, Liz. It was a real discovery for us and we’ll be back if we get our way.

So delicious, I’m craving it now! Glad to see you show a part of Spain that’s not normally featured.

That’s why I like escaping into the interior on Gran Canaria. Or to beaches that are more out of way than others.

These are the exact ingredients Chris – white beans, cured shoulder of pork (lacon), chorizo, morcilla (blood sausage), and water or stock. There are variations but I think they’re all Gluten-free. Both Asturias and the Picos de Europa to the east offer some of Europe’s best hiking, in my opinion. Thanks for commenting!

I would love to know if the stew is gluten-free (no flour, etc). Putting this down as a hiking destination.

We’ll be heading back there for sure, paddy, maybe via Trujillo and Avila next time, or Duero wine country. Whichever way we go we’ll be sure to end up in Asturias.
