There was a snowstorm as well and I got a combination of AMS and hypothermia, so the safest thing was to go to lower altitude and into a warm refuge. It was not fun, so when your body tells you that you can’t go any further you should listen. There is no shame in that whatsoever! I also trekked Cotopaxi a few years ago. We didn’t have time to do the summit, so only made it to the refuge and then to where the glacier starts at 5000m. I am tempted to go back and try the summit one day, but only if the weather is good. ;-)
