April 14, 2011 marks the one year anniversary of the eruption of the Eyjallajökull volcano. Though it might be known more for the impressive ash cloud grounding flights and pissing off travelers around the world, Iceland is starting to see the silver lining with an eruption of tourism.

Wanderlust reports a family farm at the base of the volcano is now the Þorvaldseyri Visitor Centre, offering films and photographs of the family going about their daily chores with Eyjallajökull blowing up in the background. Don’t tell them how crappy your job is.

Trekking has also sprung up. Particularly, head to the Gigjokull glacier to see Earth’s forces in action or, better yet, hike right to the eruption site. Yeah, you can definitely spit into the very volcano that stranded you in the U.K. last year.

If that’s not enough inspiration to visit Iceland, watch this video from the group Inspired By Iceland, then start researching flights. Trust me, it’s that cool.

Go. To.
