It seems counterintuitive, but sometimes subletting your apartment\/home and buying an around-the-world ticket is what you need to do to stand out among a sea of candidates that all look the same in a tight job market. Or it may be what you need to simply get time away to consider a career change or evaluate your own life goals.<\/p>\n

If this thought of temporarily escaping to follow your travel dreams seems radical or crazy — but yet is also ignites a slight spark of interest — then we have an event for you. Taking a big leap like this takes planning and support, and that\u2019s just what Meet, Plan, Go! provides. The people at Meet, Plan, Go!<\/a>\u00a0will ignite that spark into a full blown fire in your belly.<\/p>\n

On October 16, 2012, Meet, Plan, Go! will be hosting their third annual nationwide event in 10 cities to inspire and teach people how to fulfill their career break<\/a> and long-term travel dreams. The event will offer participants the opportunity to meet inspirational speakers and like-minded travelers, get motivation, make contacts and learn about resources necessary to plan the trip of a lifetime, and to start taking concrete steps forward to go on that global adventure.<\/p>\n

I am the co-founder of Meet, Plan, Go!, and I started the\u00a0organization\u00a0because we live in a society that doesn\u2019t find value in taking time off, and I wanted to create a community for people who want to break out of the norm and travel for an extended period of time. I believe that this is the only seminar out there designed for people who are looking to do long-term independent travel.<\/p>\n

Every event will feature individuals and travel experts who have fulfilled their own world travel dreams. Each event will address the main concerns that prevent people from taking a career break, usually centered around financial, career-related, societal and safety concerns. In addition, there will be mini break-out “sessions” focusing on various aspects of long-term travel planning such as preparation checklists, packing tips, saving money, how to find volunteer opportunities, planning a purposeful itinerary, choosing the right insurance and how to find local experiences when you travel. Each attendee will leave with a wealth of travel information.<\/p>\n

Over 1,000 people attended for last year\u2019s event, 40% of which were in a trip planning stage pre-event. In a post-event survey, that number rose to 54%. We want career breaks to be more acceptable in America, and it is our goal to see a career break on every resume. With the support of our 10 inspiring hosts, their panelists and our sponsors — including Intrepid Travel, Insure My Trip, BootsnAll, and International TEFL Academy — we are making great inroads to achieving that goal.<\/p>\n
