Spring is here. In Montana, the word for spring translates literally into \u201cwet snow,\u201d but around the world, the cherry blossoms are ripe for the photographing. Some places are notably better than others (read: don\u2019t expect to see any if you come visit me), so Jaunted dropped an article that lists out the top five places — other than Washington D.C. — to see the pink glory of cherry blossom season<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Last year, I had the pleasure of experiencing a Korean spring. It was as if all the plants locked themselves in a boardroom somewhere and hammered out a schedule of when to bloom.\u00a0The following two months were a symphony of color. The name on that symphony\u2019s marquee \u2014 cherry blossoms. Seoul, the article\u2019s second choice behind Macon, Georgia (the self-appointed \u201cCherry Blossom Capitol of the World\u201d), erupts in color this time of year. Mount Namsan, is a favorite wander of enthusiasts, with tree-lined streets, but I suggest heading over to Yeouido Island with the rest of the blossom seeking experts.<\/p>\n

Stateside, San Fran\u2019s Japantown claims to have the largest celebration outside of D.C., the Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival<\/a>. Not only can you revel in the pinkness, but feel free to get your Japan on with some taiko drumming or kendo (fencing with bamboo swords). On the east coast, head to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden\u2019s Cherry Esplanade<\/a> and stroll through their very own collection of the trees.<\/p>\n

In the end, when you think of cherry blossoms, you are really thinking of Japan. I heard satellite images of the entire country have a pink hue to them this time of year. If you have a chance, head to Matsumae on the island of Hokkaido and charge up that camera battery, because the park around the Matsumae Castle has more than 10,000 trees in 250 different cherry varieties.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
