Bourdain Brings His Punk Rock Sensibility And Aloha Shirts To The Philippines This Week

Wednesday, February 18, 2009

Anthony’s doing No Reservations from the Philippines this week, where, for some reason, he felt compelled to walk the streets of Manila sampling chicken balls (not what you’re thinking) and Pansit (stir-fried noodle dish) while decked in a flowery Aloha shirt. Tony, this is the Philippines. Not Hawaii. Not Kappa Sig’s backyard. Please don’t make […]

Send TheExpeditioner.com To China (Or Else!)

Wednesday, February 18, 2009

Those always industrious elves over in the TripFilms.com tree house are always up to something creative, and this week was no exception: they announced the finalists for their first annual Trippy Awards, a contest recognizing the many travel video contributors to their site. In addition to what has been described to me as a very […]

Top Spots To Snorkel In The Caribbean (It’s Like Scuba, But For Wimps)

Tuesday, February 17, 2009

And by wimps I include myself. That’s because I haven’t learned to Scuba, but I’ve also spent my life living in places where the ocean was either something you read about in textbooks (Colorado), something that was good to lounge near but not to go in unless you really love seaweed or had no fear […]

Wonder What Thailand Was Like Pre-Tourists? Head To Sierra Leone

Tuesday, February 17, 2009

Want to experience for yourself the sense of discovery like your traveling forbearers did? You’ve heard the stories before (most likely from that high school science teacher that had a pony tail or from that uncle that shows up for Christmas every three years): The Hippie Trail in the ’60’s, Thailand/Bali in the 70’s — […]

Discovering Tangier With A Little Help From A Friend

Sunday, February 15, 2009

Many travelers skip Tangier on their way to the rest of Morocco due to the city’s sordid history and dodgy reputation. But, as I discovered, sometimes all it takes is just a little help from a friend from the inside to discover the wonders of the city. By Jeffery Smith “Why don’t we go to […]

One Year Until Winter Olympics: Rejoice Curling Fans Around The World

Friday, February 13, 2009

It seemed like just yesterday that I was getting over my Olympic fever, Commonwealth Games hysteria, and X-Games nausea, but now the Winter Olympics 2012 are less than a year away and Vancouver is gearing up, and I’m loading up on my Dramamine to handle it all. Of course, the smart traveler would head now […]

How To See The Real Venezuela

Friday, February 13, 2009

One night as I was returning to my hostel in Santa Marta, Colombia, I ran into a group of guys from Ireland who had just arrived from Venezuela. “How’d you guys like it?” I asked. “It’s a very beautiful country,” one of the guys responded. “Just avoid Caracas. I never want to go back there […]

Now that the Grammy’s are over, we can go ahead and move behind the mediocrity that is mainstream music here in the U.S. and go back to enjoying the myriad amount of fun, interesting, enjoyable, and creative music being produced, or at least influenced by, the rest of the world. 10 Tips To Pinching Yen While In Japan

Wednesday, February 11, 2009

As far as conversions go, Japan’s got to be one of the worst places to travel to right now. But be honest, when has lack of money ever really stopped you from traveling before? At least there are a few (okay 10) ways you can save a few thousand Yen and maybe even enjoy the […]

America To Drop Travel Ban To Cuba?

Wednesday, February 11, 2009

I just started hearing about the Freedom to Travel to Cuba Act (or H.R. 874) which would drop travel restrictions for Americans heading to Cuba. Curiously enough, the bill includes an exception that would restrict travel if the U.S. were to go to war with Cuba: good news for those in the military.
