This video makes the strong argument that, sometimes, travel videos are just better off telling a story without saying a word (something I think about alot when I’m blathering on in my own videos).

In this feast for the eyes, Salvus takes us on a magnificent journey through Taipei, exploring its impeccable subway system, checking out the views from atop Taipei 101, and watching the changing of the guards at the Martyr’s Shrine.

Highlight: Maybe I was just hungry when I was watching, but I loved the shots of the street food beginning at 2:18. Yes, please, I’ll take it all.

It has been a couple of years since I went gallivanting around the northern regions of Taiwan. However, just recently, I found out about this rare, bizarre, eerie housing complex just outside of Taipei. I am kicking myself that I didn´t find out about it sooner so that I could see it for myself.

It was built in the late 70´s or early 80´s (date is still debated) in San Zhi for affluent families from Taipei. Construction was never completed due to varying theories (also, still debated). There is not much information on it, but I would be interested if anyone does have any.

If you are ever in Taiwan and want to see something most people don´t, get to this spot and let me know how it was.

Places like Taiwan, China, Laos, and Japan maybe more known for their motor bikes, or their overly utilitarian use of bicycles. This WSJ article, explores a less popular way to get moving through, and in touch with, the cultures of these these countries.

The article states, “Sometimes the truest way to experience a place is on the back of a bike.” No argument from me. Well, until the saddle sores set in. The human powered nature of the transport just seems to more easily immerse you in the local cultures you peddle through.

Afternoon rides to a multiday trek through Laos, you can discover temples rarely seen by foreign eyes, refuel at roadside fresh fruit stands on the Chinese island of Hainan, or refill your water bottles at a fresh spring near Kyoto, Japan.

Although outside of Asia, also described was a trip through the vineyards southeast of Melbourne, Australia. That’s most likely where you’ll find me. Although, who knows how many more miles I’d put after a few drinks. I can hear myself now, “you guys go on without me. I’ll catch up (snicker, snicker).”
