Hike Fox Glacier In New Zealand — Helicopter Required

Thursday, July 16, 2009

I know this is the second helicopter video I’ve featured this month, but how cool does this hiking trip on Fox Glacier on the south island of New Zealand look? My only advice would be to avoid reading “Into Thin Air” up to a year before doing any sort of hiking trip that requires more […]

Travel Meets Music Videos, The World Is A Better Place

Thursday, July 16, 2009

Glasgow’s own Camera Obscura has this new travel-themed music video out (remember those?), which features the bearded-nerdy-guy-and-model-girlfriend-travel-Europe motif (see “2 Days In Paris“). Nice shots of Paris, Barcelona, and Rome. The only part that made me cringe was the “Where The Hell Is Matt” reference at 2:08. Sigh.

Your Guide To Paris Food Blogs

Wednesday, July 15, 2009

What better way to indulge your Parisian food lust fantasies (short of eating there) than reading about it every day? I know, sad substitute, but at least it’s something. Budget Travel’s running down their 10 favorite Paris food blogs, including Clotilde Dusoulier’s “Chocolate & Zucchini,” Francois Simon’s “Simon Says” (rumored to be the inspiration for […]

Frommer Watch: Death To The Cruise

Wednesday, July 15, 2009

In anticipation of the maiden voyages of the Oasis of the Seas and the Allure of the Seas, two of the largest cruiseships ever built, Frommer’s setting the record straight on his view of cruises: they blow. Especially these two behemoths, whose seven-day “trips” spend half their time at sea, and the other half dumping […]

Where To Eat While In New York City (Bring Your Credit Card)

Tuesday, July 14, 2009

Your best bet for unforgettable NYC eats is almost assuredly far from any crowds of tourists but likely packed with in-the-know diners in a city known for its food snobbery. To help ease any dining anxiety you may have at the thought of coming up empty-handed when friends ask where you ate while in the […]

The World’s Top 10 Biking Cities

Tuesday, July 14, 2009

Having just discovered Montreal’s own foray into the modern bike-sharing world with “Bixi,” it got me thinking: Montreal must be one of the world’s top biking cities. And lo and behold, T+L has confirmed my suspicions, with Montreal coming in at number #4 behind, not suprisingly for anyone who’s been there, Copenhagen at #1, followed […]

I Want To See Pakistan But Am A Little Worried To Visit. Where Should I Go?

Tuesday, July 14, 2009

Located smack in between India and China in Pakistan’s Northern Areas, the Hunza Valley may be the best bet for the intrepid traveler hoping to experience Pakistan but who’s a tad bit worried about visiting, as the FT describes. Despite the jihadis who dominate the airwaves, however, Pakistan has a proud tradition of hospitality to […]

Finding Paris’s Secret Corners From Behind A Camera

Sunday, July 12, 2009

You never know what you’ll stumble upon while wandering the streets of Paris with camera in hand. Hopefully a good picture, but more important, some great memories. By Dana McMahan Sophie pushed open an anonymous door on rue de Faubourg Saint Antoine and we stepped off the noisy street and into a peaceful, shaded alley […]

Standing Room Only Coming To Ryanair?

Friday, July 10, 2009

Yeah, I’d do it. That’s how cheap I am when it comes to air travel. Ryanair is apparently in the preliminary stages of retrofitting its fleet of planes to allow for a “standing room only” or “vertical seating” section where once there were four rows of overly comfortable, gilded-age era seat dwellers. Will it actually […]

Matador’s got your guide to the festivities around the world, including New York’s Midtown celebrations (not to metion the giant pétanque tournament in Brooklyn), Budapest’s […]
